The Rambus ® RIMM™ module is a general purpose high-performance memory module
suitable for use in a broad range of applications including computer memory,
personal computers, workstations, and other applications where high bandwidth
and low latency are required.

9.6 GByte/second of memory performance while retaining standard PC form factors.

This summary will show the different Rambus modules and their relative form
factors.
It will show the difference between PC800, PC1066 and RIMM4200.
There are 3 independent attributes that define which specification a RAMBUS
module belongs to:

Clock speed:
This is the effective clock speed. The actual clock speed is 400MHz for PC800
and 533MHz for PC1066, the clock is doubled using DDR technology.
Latency:
The first versions of PC800 RAMBUS used 45ns components. These parts are typically
compatible with the Intel i820, i840 and i850 chipsets.
The Intel i850E chipset requires PC800 RAMBUS with 40ns components.
Bus width:
Here's a side by side comparison of 16-bit and 32-bit RAMBUS modules:
As you can see the modules are physically different, a 16-bit module will not
fit in a 32-bit slot, a 32-bit module will not fit in a 16-bit slot.
The 32-bit modules appear to be two 16-bit modules from the mainboard's point
of view, so you do not need to install them in pairs. You do still need to install
Continuity RIMMS in any empty RIMM sockets.
Currently the 32-bit modules are only available as RIMM4200, 1066MHz 32ns, which
has led to the confusion that all 1066MHz modules are 32-bit.
