Although a removable/backup hard drive might transfer files faster (sometimes my Windows XP laptop loses its connection to the USB drive), this does everything I need it to do.

although USB 3.0 promises to be significantly faster than 2.0 devices (like this one), it's still a 2010 reality. in the meantime, take advantage of drastic price drops in silicon to use pen devices rather than dvd-rw for backups. oempcworld continues to be my favorite place to shop for silicon.
