Micro SD was originally called T-Flash and then TransFlash before
being rechristened MicroSD when adopted by the SD Card Association (SDA).
Other flashcard formats approved by the SDA include miniSD and SD
The MicroSD card is a type of removable flash memory card designed specifically
for mobile phones and other small devices. MicroSD cards are usable in
SD-compatible devices via an adapter. Like any flash memory card, it can
be used to store various types of files, including photos, videos, music,
or software. Currently, MicroSD is available in 64 to 512 megabyte capacities.
The MicroSD memory card is functionally compatible with the SD memory
card but is smaller in dimensions. The MicroSD memory card communication
is based on an advanced 8-pin interface and the host interface supports
both regular SD or miniSD memory.
