Hello, I hope the Holidays treated you well.  Here is an update with important information regarding the coming Chinese New Year holiday and its impact on goods coming in from Asia.

Every year millions of Chinese workers travel from their places of work back to their home towns in what is called the largest annual migration on the planet. Factories close for an extended period to allow folks to return to their families, and it takes some time to ramp production back up once work has resumed.

This holiday follows a lunar calendar so it floats and in 2022 it comes early in the year.

Here are some important dates:

Last orders to factories by:  January 18, 2022

Last shipments to customers:  January 26, 2022

Factories closed starting:  January 28, 2022

Chinese New Year:  Year of the Tiger begins February 1, 2022

Factories reopen on:  February 8, 2022

If you purchase GoRAM (formerly Gigaram) branded SD, microSD or CompactFlash cards this notice will impact availability of the goods you use.  Also, GoRAM branded USB drives are impacted by this notice.  If you do any custom logo, custom label or special packaging this holiday will also affect you.

Please take a look at your current stock.  Will it be adequate to get you to the beginning of March?  If not, let’s plan to get your requirements in before the long break to ensure you have the components you need.

Major brands like SanDisk, Samsung, Toshiba and Lexar also close their factories, and while they try to leave adequate stock in the supply chain to cover this period, shortages are common due to so many businesses taking safety stock to shore things up.  In addition, this usually causes seasonal pricing spikes which do not normalize until second quarter. Please share any forecast data you have available so we can help you stay ahead of any potential market issues.

I hope this information was helpful. If you have any questions please contact me.  I am here to help.  Until then, take care.
